Rumor Mill: 11/28/07

Leah | November 28, 2007 | 12:53 pm

The Rumor Mill is something I will do mainly throughout the off season since there are more rumors about trades, deals, etc. going on, but I will keep doing it throughout the season as well. The posts will be fewer and posted less often during the season. Of course, though, with Wren being like Schuerholz rumors are probably more than likely to actually be rumors until they are announced as being true somewhere, but it’s something to add to the Hot Stove season when there’s not much else going on. I’ll also try to put my spin on the rumors as well.

I found it interesting that the Braves have been linked to Melky Cabrera again for another off season. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees may look to trade him this off season. Apparently he has some interest and we’re one of the teams interested.

Meanwhile, the Yankees could trade Melky Cabrera even if they do not include him in a deal for Santana. Several clubs are showing interest in Cabrera, including — presumably — the Braves, who tried to acquire him last off-season. If the Yankees trade Cabrera, they will move Johnny Damon back to center.

Whole Article

It’s not much, but it mentions the possibility of us being interested. Cabrera will only be 24 next year, while David DeJesus, who we’re also reportedly interested in as well, will be 28. DeJesus has more experience than Cabrera by two years. Their minor league numbers are slightly comparable with slight differences, but then you could also say that their major league numbers can compare slightly as well. Cabrera has a little bit of an edge in defense and DeJesus has more of an edge in offense. Both would work for the Braves, but Cabrera might be had for less than DeJesus. Plus, we would only need them for possibly two years, maybe more depending on how quickly Jordan Schafer develops.

Cabrera’s Splits - .275 .340 .388 728
DeJesus’ Splits - .282 .358 .415 773

Wren also mentioned in his chat that we were currently looking at two particular center fielders and these two fit the descriptions for the most part. Again, there’s not really much to go on yet. This is really the only rumor out right now other than the Coco Crisp rumor, but that’s been played too many times already.

      • I've put up a new theme as you've probably noticed, but I'm still working on a few others to use as well. The Theme Switcher is still down for that reason and will be back up as soon I'm finished.
