Five Things You Might Not Know About Me

Leah | March 31, 2008 | 5:46 pm

I saw Lauren T. do this and thought it might be fun to do. That and I was a bit bored, so here you go. I hope that you find out more about me than you already knew about me.

1. My first Braves game was in 2005 on July 29th for my sister’s 21st birthday (which is actually Aug. 2nd), even though I’ve been a fan ever since I can remember. We played the Pirates and Horacio Ramirez pitched in that game. This was my first and hopefully my last time sitting in the outfield seats (I actually sat there once last year as well…still didn’t like it). I’ve only been to two other games after his one (two last year), but I’d love to go to a lot more this year and hope to do so.

2. Although I saw Mac hit his post season homer off Clemens, I didn’t actually start liking and noticing how good he was until around the middle of 2006. I was partial to KJ and surprisingly Frenchy in ‘05. Always have been a fan of Smoltz and I used to like Deon Sanders when I was younger, for whatever reason. Andres “Big Cat” Galarraga was a favorite as well.

3. I have been into web design since I was around 13 or 14 years old. I taught myself most of what I know now (I have learned a lot in college as well) and I also got into graphic design on my own. I learned mostly by using tutorials, but also doing things on my own free time whenever I feel the creativity. Classmates at my school (private K3-12 grade school) used to always tell me that I was online all the time and the reason for that was because I was always wanting to accomplish more with my web design and graphic design skills. I was online a lot, but it was because I love doing things on the computer. If that makes me a nerd with no life, so be it.

I do prefer web design (the right way, actually hand coding instead of using programs to do it for you) over graphic design, but I love doing both. I would rather pursue web design as my career and think of graphic design as a good alternative, but I really only think of graphic design as more of a hobby than a future career. I feel I have an slight edge though because I do love doing both so much. I also love writing and would love to write for a future career, in sports (baseball) or novels, which is why I love blogging so much. I love expressing myself through words and details.

4. Music is also one of my other loves. I don’t sing in the shower or anything, because I’m always still asleep, but other than that, I’m usually going over songs in my head or singing in my car to what’s in my CD player. I have to have music playing unless I’m reading, then I can’t have it on. I love listening to music, though. My taste is ecclectic in that I like some heavy metal to country to sappy love ballads. I blame the rock love that I have on my brother for influencing me into liking it when I was younger, but that’s what I mostly listen to and prefer.

5. To expound upon why my blog is the name that it is, I have this bit that I wrote for another meme like this one for my LJ.

I used to play sports when I was younger and a lot thinner. I used to be athletic, surprisingly enough. I played rec. softball for six years. I stopped playing right before they switched to fast pitch here. I guess that’s one reason I’ve always liked baseball so much. I played basketball my sixth grade year and decided it wasn’t for me. I played soccer for four years in junior high and high school. Three of those years I didn’t play because of my asthma and they didn’t have a team one year. I don’t think I was even very good at it now that think about it.

I regret quitting softball now. I would have loved to have kept playing it and to have played through high school, but I didn’t. That was really the only sport I remember playing that I really loved. I wasn’t too bad at it back then either. I was either a catcher, an outfielder, the EH, or where ever they put me. I mostly was a catcher or EH though. I was the EH more often than not because of my asthma and I guess the coaches liked my bat and I was somewhat able to run adequately. I was no Willie Harris, but as I said, I was thin and athletic then. My mom used to call me Michael Tucker because I usually swung at the first pitch. I guess now, since he’s no longer a Brave, I was more of a Jeff Francouer or a Matt Diaz because I usually could get a hit. Lot of good memories from those years though.

Following along with the tagging thing, I tag whoever feels like they want to do it. I hate tagging people on these things since the people I tag hardly ever do them.

      • I've put up a new theme as you've probably noticed, but I'm still working on a few others to use as well. The Theme Switcher is still down for that reason and will be back up as soon I'm finished.
